Custom Orthotics
As the saying goes, it’s not what’s on the outside that counts – it’s what’s on the inside! In today’s busy 24/7 world, a custom-made insole inside your shoe can not only reenergize tired feet and keep us moving but can prevent future injuries. If your foot roll in or out, the muscles involved in walking are forced to compensate for this imbalance or misalignment. Consequently, over time, you may experience knee problems, hip problems, back and neck problems as a result of an improper gait.
One of the simplest means of correcting a foot imbalance is Custom Orthotic Insoles worn inside your shoe. The insole is designed to balance the foot properly so that your movement or gait is correctly aligned throughout your body. Consequently, the more precise the measurement is, the better the alignment.
Getting your Custom Orthotic Insoles is a 2 step process:
· The first step is to obtain a prescription from a foot specialist, a Chiropodist (D.Ch or D.Pod.M) or a Podiatrist (D.P.M). Our Chiropodist will do a full assessment including your medical history, an examination of both your feet and your gait. Then he will take a precision measurement of your foot at rest and in mid-gait with our computerized 3D laser measurement system.
· The second step is the custom manufacturing. The 3D laser measurement of your foot is forwarded directly to the manufacturer and your Custom Orthotic Insole is custom-made to your measurements out of durable carbon fibre materials. The manufacturing process typically takes about 2 weeks.
Custom Orthotics are intended to change your gait alignment so there is a period of adjustment as your muscles get used to working in a slightly different way. Consequently, to avoid muscle soreness, we advise that you adapt to your new orthotics – begin with an hour or so and build up to fulltime over a 2 week period.
